About Me
I grew up outside Chicago and then moved to Northern Indiana for my last two years of high school (go Wawasee Warriors!). I graduated from the University of Virginia in 1989 with a degree in Economics. My first job was as an investment banker in New York City, but the lifestyle made me miserable. I decided I had to do what I loved = sports.

I was able to land a job working behind-the-scenes as a Production Assistant at ESPN in Bristol, Connecticut. After three years there, I got my first on-air TV job as the weekend sports anchor at the Fox affiliate in Albany, Georgia. Within six months, I was Sports Director. After a year doing that, I moved to the CBS affiliate in Augusta, Georgia... where YES I played Augusta National -- twice! In 1999, I followed my wife to her hometown of Louisville and got a job as a Sports Anchor/Reporter at WHAS11 television, where I worked with Garry Gupton and Brad Knoop.

After the birth of my first child, I decided the scheduling demands of working in sports were too much (I was away from my family until midnight most weeknights and every weekend), so I transitioned to a job doing promotional work for WBKI-TV here in Louisville. Remember "The Buzz"? That was me. WBKI was one of the top WB affiliates in the country and is now a part of the CW network -- check it out!

When Tony Cruise left "SportsTalk 84" to take over the morning show, I jumped at the chance to pursue a lifetime dream: hosting my own radio show. I ventured back into sports and I've been on the air at 84WHAS since July 2004.

I love my job and realize just how lucky I am!
The Family
My wife Carolyn was born and raised in Louisville and is the reason I'm here. She's a former news reporter for WAVE3 television and now does freelance Public Relations work, with Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom as her primary client.

My oldest daughter Madison (6) is a non-stop blast of energy, vocabulary and socializing. You can hear her periodically on Terry's show.

My youngest daughter Lucy (3) is the sweetest child in the universe, at least in my biased opinion.

Lach's Locks!

last year was brutal for me picking football games: well under 50% against the spread for both college and pro. but it's a new season and I've turned it around -- I was 4-0 against the number for the first weekend of the season!

let's see if I can keep it going... each week I'll pick my favorite games and post them here so you can track my progress.

NCAA: Arkansas -13.5 v Louisiana-Monroe
NCAA: UConn at Temple OVER 38
NCAA: Georgia Tech at Boston College OVER 38.5
NCAA: Ohio at Ohio State OVER 46.5
NCAA: Rice at Memphis UNDER 65.5
NFL: Cincinnati -1.5 at Baltimore
NFL: Cincinnati at Baltimore UNDER 38
NFL: New Orleans -3 v Tampa Bay
NFL: Detroit at Atlanta UNDER 41

season record so far:
4-0 NCAA
0-0 NFL

NOTE: I also pick games straight up as part of our "Pick A Winner" contest. if you beat me, you can win a prize! look for details on the left side of the screen to enter
Ryder Cup info
Monday 08-25-2008 6:43pm ET

I went to the Tournament Director for answers to your Ryder Cup questions. this is a cut-and-paste of our email exchange:

I've had some listeners who live within walking distance of Valhalla ask me if they'll be able to walk to the Ryder Cup. will there be any walk-up entrances?
There are no official Walk-In Entrances at Valhalla.
what about people who want to be dropped off somewhere?
Unfortunately, there is no place to drop off guests.  There is a no stopping/no dropping rule on Shelbyville Road which will be enforced by LMPD. .
basically I'm wondering if the shuttles are the ONLY way to gain access to the event.
Folks have two (2) options:
1) Park for FREE at KEC and ride the shuttle for FREE from KEC.
2) Ride the shuttle for FREE from Downtown. The shuttle stop is on Market between 2nd and 3rd Streets.
KEC is really a great parking place.  All paved, so no dust in the heat and no mud in the rain.
It has lots of points of ingress and egress so people will be able to come and go quickly.
The motor coaches are all air-conditioned and 80% of them have video capabilities, showing Ryder Cup action.
It's a comfortable ride, where guests will talk with fellow USA fans and plenty of European fans.
Thanks for your support of the event. It's going to be great!

speaking of the Olympics...
how 'bout Paragua's Javelin thrower Leryn Franco? the former model has no chance for a medal, but who cares?

Wolfpack QB looks like Opie
this is true freshman Mike Glennon, competing for the start QB job at North Carolina State. he looks like he's about 12 years old!

speaking of funny athlete pictures
Jon Rauch was born in Louisville, went to Oldham County High and Morehead State and now pitches for the Arizona Diamondbacks. but I guess he was feeling a little goofy when he took his individual photo for the Washington Nationals

now for the educational portion of the website
it's worth your time to read this amazing article on water recycling:

the most amazing stat was that about 1/5 of California's energy is used to move water from North to South. WOW!

test your college knowledge!

going green
I'm not normally into environmental issues. if you have to kill a tree to make my life better, so be it. but I thought this slideshow made a compelling case about reducing our use of plastic bags:
